BLACK TEA
When producing our organic, fair trade and biodynamic black teas, we only use two leaves & the bud harvested from the tea plant (Camellia sinensis). Black tea is the most oxidized type of tea, which means it is richer in colour and more penetrating in flavour. It also has the highest caffeine content of any type of tea, and contains antioxidants which helps in the prevention of many diseases. Unlike other types of tea (such as green, oolong or white), black tea retain its flavour for several years. Our black tea comes in dust, fanning, broken and leafy grades as well in the form of extracts. These tea grades are sold as bulk tea or in consumer packs, either in their natural state or after flavouring.
The consumption of black tea has a long history across the world, and enriches many traditions and cultures. It is served in hot or cold forms, and without sweetness or additives, contain a negligible amount of calories. Because our teas are organic, our customers have the added peace of mind that their cup of tea is free of harmful chemical residues that could deter from the benefits of drinking tea.

GREEN TEA
Green tea is a product made from the tea plant (Camellia sinensis) that has undergone minimal oxidation during processing. As such the, the color (ranging from light green to light yellow), the caffeine content and flavor of this tea is substantially milder compared to black teas. There can be many flavor variations to the product, due to variable growing and plucking conditions, horticulture, production processing, and harvesting time. This makes green tea particularly interesting. Our beautiful green teas comes in broken and leafy grades (as well as in the form of extracts), and are sold as bulk tea and or consumer packs (either in natural or flavored status). Due to the notorious health benefits of this beverage, green tea has become the raw material for extracts which are used in various beverages, health foods, dietary supplements, baking, ice-cream and cosmetic industries.
Green Tea is increasingly becoming popular and widespread around the globe due to its numerous health effects. Scientific research conducted over the last few decades have linked the tea with lowered risk of developing everything from heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis to certain types of cancer. It has a strong record in weight-loss studies, lowering cholesterol, blood sugar and high blood pressure; while providing anti-aging inducement with a considerable amount of antioxidants. It also thought to boost immunity levels for this reason. Because our teas are organic, our customers have the added peace of mind that their cup of tea is free of harmful chemical residues that could deter from the benefits of drinking tea.

HEAVEN SCENT TEA
This is a special tea produced only by BioFoods, according to a patented manufacturing process developed by our chairman and founder, Dr. Ranaweera. Currently, the process only takes place in our Kingslynn tea processing centre, in the remote central hills of Sri Lanka. The tea fields are located on a steep slope close to the locally renowned “World’s End”, and contributes to the very unique flavor developed in the teas by this top-secret manufacturing process.

By definition, it is a fresh or dried seed, fruit, bark or vegetative substance used as a food additive for flavour, colour, aroma enhancement, or as a preservative that kills bacteria and/or prevents their growth. Our organic, fair trade and biodynamic range includes black (our major export crop) & white pepper, cinnamon, cardamom, clove, nutmeg, mace, turmeric, and ginger, but this roster sometimes changes due to seasonal availability.

The demand for fresh ingredients is ever increasing across the globe. However, fresh products are difficult to transport across the globe, particularly if they are made without the use harmful chemicals and preserving agents. This led to the birth of our IQF (Instant Quick Freeze) facility. The very rapid freezing leaves the cellular structure of the produce intact, so that once its thawed, the cell composition is restored, along with the freshness, flavor and nutritive value. The processing plant that carries out this production is a BRC certified facility, one of the handful of similar plants in the country, and was recently awarded with an ‘A’ rating. A large variety if items (e.g., fresh fruit, veggies and herbs) are lined up for processing at this plant.
